The extraction and/or use of geomaterials is part of most projects and an area of specialty for EDG. The assessment of earthworks begins with the development of the geological model and characterisation of the in situ materials for comparison to the required earthworks properties at placement and compaction.
Our knowledge and understanding has been utilised on many tenders and projects including multiple stages of Bruce Highway – Cooroy to Curra, Sunshine Coast Airport Upgrade, Mackay Ring Road, Walkerston Bypass, Inland Rail, South Walker Creek Diversion, Wynnum Road Upgrade and various dam projects.
Our range of services includes:
- Excavatability assessments for soil and rock.
- Geomaterial re-use assessments for soil and rock materials won from cuttings and borrow sources.
- Working mass-haul modellers to assess material use strategies, particularly on linear projects.
- Quarry resource assessments, including resource investigations and modelling.
- Review and development of specifications to increase re-use of marginal materials.
- Embankment design, including modelling for stability and settlement.
- Expertise in specification and oversight of trial earthworks.
