Senior Principal
Ying is a Geotechnical Engineer with over 25 years’ experience in related fields of geotechnical engineering consultancy for major urban buildings and infrastructure projects in the Middle East, United Kingdom and Australia; and further 4 years’ experience in academia. She is a Chartered Professional Engineer, a Registered Professional Engineer in Victoria, Fellow of the Institution of Civil Engineers, United Kingdom and Fellow of the Institution of Engineers, Australia. She completed BEng (Hons) and PhD in University of Leeds, United Kingdom.

Ying has written or co-authored 11 technical papers on topics including seismic designs, foundation and deep retaining wall designs, bi-directional load testing and unsaturated bentonite-sand behaviour.
Notable major projects include:
- Torrens to Darlington, SA – Discipline lead for independent review of the portal designs of the 10.5km road tunnel project in unsaturated soils (2025).
- Suburban Rail Loop, VIC – Geotechnical lead for third party verifier for the design of metro stations, shafts and temporary work packages for SRL (Tunnels and Civil – Cheltenham to Box Hill) (2024-2025). Geotechnical designer for SRL reference designs (2021).
- North-East Link, VIC – Geotechnical lead responsible for detailed design and deliverables of Lower Plenty Road and Bulleen cut and covers of the 11km road tunnel project (2021-2025).
- Armadale Level Crossing Removal, WA – Undertook large scale bi-directional and top-down static load testing (33 no.). Independent reviewer of the project foundation designs (2024).
- Doha Metro, Gold Line, Qatar – Independent geotechnical reviewer/ verifier for 10 no. deep major stations of the 32 km metro tunnel project (2013-2015). Geotechnical designer of Education City Station deep basement (2015).
- Dubai Creek Harbour, UAE – Geotechnical lead for 16 no. tower designs either as designer or reviewer. Prepared development wide site investigation guidelines and pile testing strategy and foundation design guidelines. Undertook large-scale ground improvement over 1kmx 0.25km area (2015-2019).
- Creek Harbour, UAE – Geotechnical lead for the detailed design of 6 no. towers and assessment of the site-wide ground improvement of the man-made island (2016-2019).
- Dubai Metro, Red Line, UAE – Geotechnical lead for the site investigation, including advance testing and drilling of over 170 boreholes of the 52km metro tunnel project (2005-2006).
- Forensic projects (confidential) – Forensic evaluation of settlement, excavation base instability, failure of cofferdam structure, retaining walls, groundwater design and impact on structures.
