EDG was engaged by Hutchinson Builders to undertake a geotechnical investigation and provide geotechnical advice relating to the proposed development at 31 Duncan Street, Fortitude Valley. The proposed development required the majority of the existing building to remain in place with additional 11 storeys constructed above. The works required footings of the existing building to be modified and lowered and a new lift core constructed. EDG’s involvement included characterising ground conditions and provision of bearing pressures to assist with the design of foundations, face mapping during excavation of rock to lower the footing elevations, assessment of temporary stability of the rock pillars supporting existing building loads during excavations.
